The Hallows Eve Diversion is a simple but profound idea. Could one take a holiday, and transform it into hope for others? That’s exactly what those at Cause and Effect have done. While most people are going door to door for candy on this special night, The Hallows Eve Diversion team goes door to door for canned food for our local coop. And then something happens.
It happens every time.
Your moving right along, your story is forming from thin air, and then it strikes. I see it most in the second act, but it really can strike anywhere. You discover when you’ve hit it when someone asks you to describe your project, or you need to pitch it to someone. It’s then, in those moments, when you must relay the story to another human being that you realize something is missing.
One such project I have in my head goes as such:
Once upon a time there was a man who found all the lost keys of the world. This key man was looking for something mysterious and important. He keeps in his shack, properly labeled of course, every single key that has slipped through the cracks. That spare key to the shack out back. That boat key you could never find. The key to a memory lost, forgotten between the couch cushions. But one day, he finds a different key.
And then…
Something happens, something really cool and magical. Something profound and earth shattering that leaves the viewer on the floor.
