let us tell you a story...
Although we may be filmmakers by trade, we are storytellers by nature. Venture into our world and let us weave a tale for you. We will tell you about life and love and fear and pain. We will show you laughter and tears, the devil and God. The story is the lifeblood of our world and nothing matters more.
…So lean close, and let us tell you a story.

Even our best laid plans can get to the point where it’s do or die. It’s that moment when you realize you’re out of options and all your hopes and dreams feel as though they’re coming crashing down. The bigger the risk, the bigger that feeling of abject failure.
At Whitestone these moments arrive more often than I’d like to admit. However while I do dread such moments in my life or my craft, I have started to lose that sting of fear about them. Used to be that a game changer could occur in something like a film shoot, a screenplay, or some business venture, and I would just look at the pieces on the floor, shake my head , then walk away.
That was before ‘Plan F’.

We have it all played out in our heads. A perfect scenario that must exist in order for us to sit down and work on that masterpiece of ours. Mine usually incorporates downtown New York, maybe in a blizzard. Another scenario puts me on a train for weeks traveling through America or Europe. Weeks of uninterrupted time with no other responsibilities or appointments.

We artists often think that the planets must align and things must be perfectly conducive in order for us to be at our best creatively. In fact, the fantasy is so strong for some people, including myself, that one wont even begin a creative endeavor until the perfect situation has presented itself.
These self indulgent fantasies are just that, fantasies. Read the rest of this entry »

The following post is from Whitestone’s resident editor Chad Sarahina.
Editing for Heartless has begun. The part where the pieces come together,
the bricks are laid, and the story unfolds.
The footage is mountainous. At first, in the editing room, fear paralyzes
me. Time is ticking away, if I don’t start this now, it will never get done.
Again, I sit down, but this time prepared for the terrain that must be
endured. The day passes and the beginning scenes are assembled. I have won.

The pieces come together and a film, more importantly a story, comes alive.
The scenes reveal new meanings and feelings to me with each added cut. It’s
important to remember that my audience has never seen this film. I know
everything that happens in this world, even beyond what is on screen. How do I keep that flavor fresh?
Let’s break for the day. The muse has been good to me. She will hopefully come again tomorrow. If she does, she will show me the scene with new eyes…or Brandon will. It’s great to be able to collaborate with him.
This wonderful story is going to be in post production for a while, but
trust that it will definitely be worth the time being poured into it. While
we work on ours, start on yours. Don’t let it sit in your heart, it’s worth
being told. So, tell me a story.

This is a call.
A call to those who know they have inside them more than what can be seen. This is a call for the dreamers of the day and the makers of things. Whitestone Motion Pictures is proud to open submissions for our year round internship program. This program is an invitation into the inner workings of the storytelling efforts of Whitestone and its ongoing pursuit of excellence.
This is an unpaid internship that is the first step to getting closer to our productions, whether that means getting on set for our films, or getting introduced to the craftsmen and women who make Whitestone special.
If interested, email intern@whitestonemotionpictures.com and you’ll be informed of our intern orientation in January where you’ll meet the filmmakers and hear how things work at Whitestone.
