let us tell you a story...

Although we may be filmmakers by trade, we are storytellers by nature. Venture into our world and let us weave a tale for you. We will tell you about life and love and fear and pain. We will show you laughter and tears, the devil and God. The story is the lifeblood of our world and nothing matters more.
…So lean close, and let us tell you a story.

keeping the train moving: a year as 1st AD

The following is a blog post written by Pedro Oliviera, 1st AD at Whitestone Motion Pictures.
When a person draws an interest towards developing a career or involvement in filmmaking they often pursue one of the following prestigious roles; Director, Producer or Editor (or at least that’s what they’ve told me). There’s a rare breed that steers clear of that typical interest and assumes a different cameo.

call sheets

When I first stepped on to a film set, I often saw myself starting from the bottom and making my way up to eventually getting to a point where I would be making my own films. Once I truly understood the process that goes behind producing a film, I said to myself, “There’s no way on earth I’d want to ever sit in a directors chair.” That’s when the role of Assistant Director came to my mind.

When I took the role, as 1st Assistant Director here at Whitestone I never really knew what that title really meant. Read the rest of this entry »

lest we forget: fcp color tutorial

Here is our first tutorial on how to use Final Cut Pro ‘Color’.
These are just a few clips from the finished film that will be released in a few days.

The file is 100 megs, so if you don’t have that kind of patience or computer, go to Vimeo HERE to watch it in HD.
Hope it’s helpful, and if you have thoughts or comments, be sure to leave them below.

Check back later this week for the full release of ‘Lest We Forget’, and some announcements on our next films in development.

sharing “twine” invitations

To those brave souls who desire to be in the edge of something new, even if it fails miserably, I have something for you. I have recently been invited to join Twine, a new social bookmarking site. It’s an interesting twist on the matter, allowing for individuals to create themed Twines that allow information that is filtered by other users. The site is invitation only as it is still in it’s beta testing. I have 25 invitations that I would like to pass along. Here’s the deal. I’m not interested in wasting them to people who will tinker with it for a few minutes, then dump it to go play WOW. How about the first 25 people who ask NICELY and are actually interested and willing to figure it out and use it get to have the invitations. Once you’ve signed up, be sure to find my twine here and join

Hope to see you there!

P.S. If you write your request in some sort of poetry, it will have a MUCH better chance!!
